Steven Gerrard has cautioned his former club against underestimating Sevilla should they meet in the next round of the Champions League.
Speaking on BT Sport, the Liverpool legend said, “It didn't suit United to be conservative in this game. I really think Sevilla were there for the taking. This could have been a piece of cake for United had they brought their A game. For the first hour, 70 minutes Sevilla had no threat. They were good in possession, but United were comfortable but didn't go for them at any point.”
The former midfielder continued, “Have they disrespected Sevilla and underestimated them?” he said. “When the draw was made, Jose Mourinho and all the players would have been delighted. But they haven't brought their A game to either leg, so they've probably got what they deserve.”
Liverpool would be wise to heed to Gerrard’s warning and use United as a cautionary tale or risk being dealt a similar fate. Jurgen Klopp’s side have had a relatively easy campaign this season - a development that has many convinced that they are bound to face their greatest challenge yet in the quarter-finals regardless of who they draw on Friday.
